Does Jublia Work?

Jublia is a prescription topical solution that you apply directly to the toe nail to treat toenail infections. I have been using it for almost a year so the real question is does Jublia work.  Take a look at these pictures and you tell me.

I really wanted Jublia to work.  I even had my toenail surgically removed and as it started to grow back I applied it religiously.  When I had to undergo my second bunion surgery I still tried my best to apply Jublia to my toenail while my foot was in a cast.

From what I can tell right now there is not much difference.  As my toenail continues to grow I will cut it and since the edges look pretty bad it might like slightly better but I am hugely disappointed in this product so far.

I am so tired of being embarrassed by this toenail.  I always wear socks when friends or family come to our house to visit.  When I go swimming I am especially self-conscience of my toe and I am constantly getting joked on by my family for my “brown toe”.

When I was in my foot cast I had a dream that when I went to the doctor to get my cast removed when they opened the cast my toenail was pink and normal.  I was so overwhelmed that in the dream I cried tears of joy.  So you can imagine my disappointment when in real life when my cast was removed I was greeted by my half grown back brown and disfigured toe nail.

When you consider the obscenely ridiculous price of Jublia – an 8 milliliter bottle is $1000 without insurance, I can not recommend this product to anyone without insurance coverage.

I plan to use Jublia until I use up my last bottle but I am not optimistic that I will see any improvement over the next few months.  If anything changes I will post the update here.

Update at 15 months

Wow what an improvement over the past 7 months since my last update!  It took forever before I noticed real improvement but I stuck with it.  I applied Jublia every morning fo 15 months and I’m happy to say that it is now night and day.  Just compare this picture to the first one.  My big toe still won’t win any beauty contests but it will al least not get laughed at by mu family or draw unwanted attention when I go to the public pool!

Update after 24 months

I have a real love/hate relationship with Jublia.  At first I hated it and it took forever to see results.  Also it is extremely expensive.  Even with insurance it costs me $75.  I will say that now I buy one bottle a year and apply it about once a week to maintain my big toenail.  While it is not perfect my toe nail looks so much better as you can see from the pictures above.

I used to feel so self-conscious of my ugly brown toe nail and my family members would joke on it all the time.  Especially my sister-in-law!  Now it’s just slightly discolored and doesn’t draw any unwanted attention.  Ha ha!  So now I would say if you have a really bad fungal infection in your toe nails and have good insurance you should give Jublia a try.  If your insurance wouldn’t cover it I would only use this as an absolute last resort.  Its just too damn expensive!
